VANCOUVER, Dec. 14, 2018 /CNW/ - Tides Canada's Board of Directors announced today that Joanna Kerr will join the organization as President and CEO.
Joanna served for the last five years as the Executive Director of Greenpeace Canada. Before this, she was the first female Chief Executive of ActionAid International, a global federation working with over 15 million people in 45 countries for a world free from poverty and injustice. She also led the Association for Women's Rights in Development and held senior positions with Oxfam Canada and the North-South Institute. Joanna currently serves as the Board Chair for the MATCH International Women's Fund.
Tides Canada's Board of Directors conducted a national search over the past six months to fill this vital role.
"In addition to having a breadth of executive experience and significant leadership positions in diverse global organizations, Joanna is a fantastic strategist and communicator. She has the commitment and passion required to lead Tides Canada towards its vision of a healthy environment, social equity, and economic prosperity for all Canadians," said Andrew Heintzman, Chair, Tides Canada Board of Directors.
"I truly believe that long term solutions for a healthy planet and just society will come from forging diverse and unusual partnerships across sectors and regions. That is why I am both excited and honoured to join Tides Canada staff and partners at such a critical moment for our planet and the communities across Canada," said Joanna.
Joanna replaces Ross McMillan, who has served as President and CEO of Tides Canada since 2007. He will step down at the end of the year. Ross led Tides Canada from an early-stage enterprise, managing dramatic growth and helping the organization achieve significant impact from coast to coast to coast.
