FLORENCEVILLE-BRISTOL, NB, July 14, 2015 /CNW/ - More than 650 French fry fans gathered on July 13th at Potato World Museum in the French Fry Capital of the World to celebrate a special day dedicated to one of the world's favourite finger foods.
The Special day included a French Fry Cutting Competition with local dignitaries vying to be crowned French Fry Cutting Champion. Contestants for the competition featured, Reigning Champion, Mayor Karl Curtis, 4H Representative Caitlin Brake, Director of Potatoes NB Matt Hemphill, local farmer Betty Brown and retired school teacher & well known entertainer Peter McLaughlin. The contestants chopped vigorously for two minutes and in the end Peter McLaughlin was crowned the French Fry Cutting Champion with a total of 12.4 kg of French Fries being produced.
Visitors were treated to free hot delicious McCain French fries throughout the day. Members from local 4-H members handed out French fry recipes and offered people the opportunity to try their hand at cutting French fries as well as cutting seed potatoes the old fashioned way.
The crowd was treated to some great musical entertainment provided by Canada's Got Talent Contestant Ivan Daigle, who entertained and certainly got the crowd's approval with his mix of classic and modern country songs.
"French fries are simply loved by everyone and make the perfect food for sharing" stated Charles Walker, Tourism Coordinator for the town. So, to see proof of this social phenomenon, a contest was started with entrants only needing to Facebook pictures of "Who do you Share your Fries with?' for a chance to win a $250 Prize Package.
Many of the town's restaurants & eateries participated in the special day by featuring French fry deals on their menus.
"Overall, it was a fun day (and a tasty one as well) for everyone to enjoy one of the world's most beloved foods" stated Walker. With visitors getting a "Taste" of what the French Fry Capital of the World has to offer, he expects many to return for next year's event.
