National Home Health Care Provider First in Canada to Implement Nurse Order Sets
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Nov. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - Bayshore HealthCare, Canada's largest national provider of community health care services, announced today it has partnered with PatientOrderSets.com and the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario to become the first Home Care organization in Canada to deploy nursing order sets.
Nursing order sets are checklists of best practice interventions that are used by nurses at the very front lines of care to optimize patient care and safety. Each order set is designed to facilitate the nursing process for one particular disease condition. Nurses consult order sets, using computers or mobile laptops, to ensure he or she receives all necessary interventions at the right time and in the right order.
"We are proud to be the first home health care provider in Canada to deploy patient order sets, ensuring our nurses have the tools needed to optimally serve patients in our communities," says Holly Quinn, Chief Nursing Officer/National Director of Clinical Programs for Bayshore. "With the aging demographic creating a greater reliance on home care services, Bayshore continues to invest in the people and technologies needed to deliver the quality of care and services that seniors and their families ought to expect."
The program will see Bayshore integrate the nursing order sets within their existing IT infrastructure with the support of PatientOrderSets.
Each nursing order set is based on Best Practice Guidelines published by the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario. Nursing order sets bring greater visibility, consistency and quality to nursing. They complement medical order sets, promoting evidence-based nursing throughout all phases of the care continuum.
