National Public Service Week kicks off next week
OTTAWA, June 11 /CNW Telbec/ - National Public Service Week, the annual celebration of the important work of Canada's public servants, is taking place from June 13 to 19, 2010. Departments and agencies from across the Public Service and the country are organizing events to celebrate the achievements and contributions of public servants.
"It is a privilege to work with the professional and dedicated public servants who provide programs and services that have a direct impact on Canadians' quality of life, and on the future of Canada," said the Honourable Stockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway. "I would like to wish all public servants a great week of celebrations. They should all feel very proud of what they accomplish every day."
Since Parliament enacted the National Public Service Week: Serving Canadians Better Act in 1992, this event has served to celebrate employees who have shown excellence in serving Canadians while reflecting the values, ethics and priorities of the federal public service.
During the week, a ceremony will be held to honour the recipients of the 2010 Public Service Award of Excellence. The Award recognizes public servants - individuals and teams - who have made significant contributions through their work.
