OTTAWA, April 13, 2015 /CNW/ - A volunteer action is like a stone thrown in a lake. Its effect has a direct impact. At the same time, like ripples, volunteer efforts reach out far and wide and help create healthy and resilient communities. Undeniably, volunteers rock.
To collectively celebrate volunteers during National Volunteer Week (NVW), Volunteer Canada and Investors Group encourage Canadians to recognize them by offering a token NVW stone. Just like no two stones are identical, every volunteer is unique. This is why participants are also urged to write a name, an impact word or a short thank you message on the stone, to personally recognize the volunteer receiving it.
"National Volunteer Week is a time to thank Canada's 12.7 million volunteers and to highlight the ripple effect of every voluntary action taken," says Paula Speevak, President and CEO of Volunteer Canada. "The impact of volunteering goes well beyond the hours given, the values shared or the skills contributed. It can be found in smiles exchanged, bold new directions taken by agencies, revitalized neighbourhoods and major shifts in public attitudes."
"Every volunteer makes a unique contribution and becomes a positive role model in their community," says Murray Taylor, President and Chief Executive Officer of Investors Group. "Investors Group is pleased to support National Volunteer Week through our partnership with Volunteer Canada as we recognize and thank these volunteers."
This is the 12th consecutive year that Volunteer Canada produces a National Volunteer Week campaign in partnership with Investors Group, Canada's corporate leader in volunteer recognition. The theme for the 2015 campaign was inspired by key findings from our 2013 Volunteer Recognition Study.
Along with thanking volunteers and offering them a token NVW stone, Volunteer Canada also invites everyone to share photos of stones on Twitter using the #NVW2015 hashtag or on Facebook by tagging @Volunteer Canada. Approximately 12,000 stones have been delivered to organizations and individuals across Canada.
