Native Shoes & the Vancouver Park Board Partner to Turn Recycled Shoes into Playgrounds
Project aims to collect 10,000 shoes by the end of 2018
VANCOUVER, Dec. 6, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, Native Shoes is excited to announce it is joining forces with the Vancouver Park Board to build playgrounds with safety flooring made from recycled, well-loved Native Shoes.
A playground at China Creek North Park will be the first to use the recycled shoes. It is expected to open next summer.
This initiative, named the Remix Project, is one of Native Shoes' programs which supports their declaration that each and every pair of Native Shoes will be 100% sustainably life cycle managed by 2023. Consumers can help build playgrounds by visiting the Native Shoes flagship store in Gastown (14 Water Street) and dropping off all styles of well-loved Native Shoes to be recycled.
Fans of Native Shoes will be excited to learn that for every pair of shoes recycled at the Native Shoes Gastown location, a 10% discount is offered on the next pair. The project's goal is to receive 10,000 pairs of recycled shoes by December 31, 2018. This is made possible in part, by a charitable contribution of logistics support from NRI Distribution.
"This initiative is special - giving back to the Vancouver community, where Native Shoes was born and calls home," said Kyle Housman, President, Native Shoes. "We look forward to working with the Vancouver Park Board to identify areas that would benefit most from playgrounds where communities can gather to keep it lite and have fun."
"We're very pleased to work with Native Shoes on this fun green initiative and perhaps see it expanded to other playgrounds across the city," said Vancouver Park Board Chair Stuart Mackinnon. "The playground at China Creek North Park is one of 18 new playgrounds being replaced in neighbourhoods across the city."
