POINTE-CLAIRE, QC, Sept. 18, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - On the eve of their thirtieth anniversary, Nature Pet Centre stores want to be part of the solution by choosing to ensure that abandoned dogs find families here, in Quebec.
For almost two months now, Nature Pet Centre stores in the Greater Montreal area have no longer been selling puppies. Dogs are now adopted directly from Animatch, following a specific process that allows a better match between the families and the animals.
According to Nature Pet Centre's General Manager, Stefan Hagen, this is a natural development. "Since the first store opened, almost thirty years ago, animals have always been at the centre of our lives. When my sister and I took over the family business, it was always clear to both of us that we wanted the best for our animals. And today, adoption is best."
For Helen Lacroix, founder of the Animatch Adoption Centre, Nature stores' decision is a huge step in the right direction. "For 15 years we have been advising families and helping them find the best companions. We are pleased by Nature's decision and the first adoption days we held in their stores were very encouraging. It is clear to us that by opening their doors in this way, they are giving us access to a clientèle that would have taken us a very long time to find on our own."
For Christina Hagen, co-owner of Nature Pet Centre stores, being a leader comes with responsibilities. "I firmly believe that this change is a win-win situation for everyone. It is an extremely positive development that is making a lot of people think. We hope be serve as an example and we would be happy if other people chose to become part of the solution!"
The first dog adoption days were held in September at Nature's Pointe Claire and Centre Laval stores. Others are planned for the remainder of the year. People can check out the event calendar on Nature Pet Centre and Animatch's Facebook pages.
Families who wish to adopt a dog can fill out an adoption form at Nature Pet Centre stores at any time.
Adoption means "giving someone the rank and rights of a family member."
Adoption is a process by which a connection is created between the adoptee and the family.
Nature Pet Centre stores have been established for 30 years in Anjou, and also in Laval, Ste-Dorothée, Boisbriand, Westmount, Lasalle and Pointe-Claire. They have 140 employees. Their goal is to find homes for over 1,000 dogs and cats in 2015.
Animatch is an adoption centre founded in 1999 by Helen Lacroix, who credits her parents with instilling their love and concern for animals in her. Today, Animatch is proud to have a centre with housing for animals and a team of dedicated volunteers.
