Naturopathic Doctors Across Ontario Celebrate Naturopathic Medicine Week 2014
TORONTO, ON, May 12, 2014 /CNW/ - Naturopathic Medicine Week is an annual celebration of the power of naturopathic medicine with a focus on increasing the public's awareness regarding healthy living and disease prevention. From May 12 to 18, 2014, Naturopathic Doctors (NDs), across Ontario are hosting public events in their local communities, including open houses, lectures, information sessions, and practical workshops on a variety of topics designed to educate patients and community members about leading a healthy life.
According to Naturopathic Doctor and Board Chair of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND) Alfred Hauk, "Naturopathic Medicine Week is a hands-on opportunity to understand the support naturopathic medicine can offer you in your community. Thousands of Ontarians have gained invaluable insight into their well-being."
As regulated health care practitioners in Ontario since 1925, naturopathic doctors are highly educated, primary care generalists and a key pillar in Ontario's healthcare system. NDs complete a minimum of eight years post-secondary education, including four years of full-time study at an accredited naturopathic institution. Naturopathic medicine integrates standard medical diagnostics with a broad range of natural and holistic therapies. At the core of naturopathic care is the individual patients' needs and health care goals, with a focus on identifying the root cause of their symptoms. NDs work with a broad range of conditions, including acute concerns and chronic health conditions. Over the last 12 months, there have been over 650,000 patient visits to NDs in Ontario.
