Nautilus Plus members burn more than 2 million calories for cancer prevention
and treatment!

MONTREAL , Nov. 24 /CNW Telbec/ - More than 6,280 people signed up for the second annual 30 Minutes à fond pour le Fonds (30-minute Workout for the Fonds Richard Béliveau), which was held November 8-9 in the 33 centres of the Nautilus Plus network. They answered Nautilus Plus management's invitation to burn the maximum number of calories as possible in a half hour while making a donation to the Richard Béliveau Fund for the Chaire de prévention et traitement du cancer de l'UQAM.

"The event was a complete success!" noted Karine Larose , Nautilus Plus Communications Director. "A party atmosphere reigned in all the centres. You could see in participants' eyes how they wanted to surpass their goals! This brilliant success could not have been achieved without the exceptional contributions of our staff and many members, who understand the great importance of the work done by the Chaire de prévention et traitement du cancer de l'UQAM, under the direction of biochemist Richard Béliveau, professor at UQAM."

Beyond the money collected, the event raised awareness among the many participants about physical activity and healthful eating being two of the best ways to prevent cancer. More than 2 million calories were burned by participants during the event -- the equivalent of more than 575 kilos of fat.

Nautilus Plus is extremely concerned about preventing cancer, which will touch more than 40% of the population. As a result, in 2008 it decided to partner with the Fondation de l'UQAM and create a special fund to financially support the work of the Chaire de prévention et traitement du cancer de l'UQAM.
