Nearly 1.6 million visitors to the Montréal Space for Life - THE Montréal destination par excellence!

MONTREAL, Aug. 28, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - With the Botanical Garden, the Insectarium, the Biodôme and the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium, the Montréal Space for Life is more than ever THE Montréal destination par excellence. Since the beginning of the year, more than 1.6 million people have visited the Montréal Space for Life—500,000 more than at the same time last year. This attendance record confirms its position as the largest natural science complex in Canada. With one in five visitors coming from outside Québec, the destination is becoming an international must-see along with such leading scientific institutions as the National Museum of Natural History in Paris and the American Museum of Natural History in New York.

The Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium and Mosaïcultures Internationales Montréal 2013 spearheading the 2013 Space for Life programming

The opening of the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium on April 6, thus consolidating the Space for Life, is one of the drivers of this success. Over 200,000 people have taken part in the breathtaking journey to the edge of the universe, in the Chaos and Milky Way theatres.

The Mosaïcultures Internationales Montréal 2013, which runs until September 29 at the Botanical Garden, is also contributing to this attendance record. The exhibition's more than 500,000 visitors have unanimously praised these larger-than-life plant sculptures. The Botanical Garden is, without question, the ideal setting for the fifty works of art created by horticultural artists from 25 countries.

And 2013 isn't over yet…

Beginning September 6, the Montréal Space for Life invites you to take an evening stroll through nature in its Gardens of Light. As darkness falls, the Botanical Garden lights up to show off the beauty and diversity of nature. The Chinese Garden revives its traditional and colourful Magic of Lanterns event and in the Japanese Garden, light and shadow create an atmosphere of contemplation and serenity.

The ever-popular Halloween festivities will follow, along with the incomparable "Coco Incognito" at the Biodôme—a year-end delight for the little ones that's not to be missed. By the end of the year, the Montréal Space for Life expects to have welcomed over 2 million visitors.

Looking ahead to 2017: Montréal's 375th birthday

These sensational results are the fruit of the fresh approach adopted by the Space for Life in recent years. So, with a view to Montréal's 375th birthday in 2017, the Montréal Space for Life has undertaken an ambitious investment plan that will position Montréal as the flag-bearer of a vast global movement in support of biodiversity.
