Plan International is conducting a rapid needs assessment and working with government, other non-governmental organizations, and UN coordinating bodies. Pre-positioned essential items (such as water and blankets) are in place to quickly support the affected population and relief teams are ready to deploy into affected areas, with some team members already positioned within communities.
Plan International has an extensive presence in Haiti, with field offices in areas that are expected to be severely impacted by the hurricane. Plan International has been working in Haiti since 1973, helping children and communities access health, education, and economic security, as well as promoting gender equality, child participation and inclusion. Since children are most vulnerable in disaster situations, Plan International's efforts will be focused on meeting the immediate, lifesaving needs of the population and protecting children during the emergency.
