New book confirms there is discrimination against Quebecers in the NHL
MONTREAL, Oct. 25 /CNW Telbec/ - Unless they are superstars, Quebec hockey players are less likely to be drafted, can expect shorter careers and les pay than other Canadians and are totally excluded from some NHL teams. Those are some of the conclusions in a new book, DISCRIMINATION IN THE NHL, QUEBEC HOCKEY PLAYERS SIDELINED by NHL veteran Bob Sirois (Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals) launched today at Guy Lafleur's restaurant.
Sirois provides statistics for 40 years and shatters tenacious myths such as "Quebecers play poor defensive hockey," "are smaller" or "are the best goalies."
The book, an updated adaptation of Sirois's bestselling LE QUÉBEC MIS EN ÉCHEC (2009), includes a new epilogue "Quebecers are not alone."
"Strong material and worth serious study by the NHL." — Stu Hackel, New York Times
"Explosive conclusions!" — Graeme Hamilton
"I agree with Bob Sirois' conclusions… it reflects reality exactly." — Michel Bergeron, former NHL coach
