Government of Canada supports Commission des loisirs de New Carlisle community project
NEW CARLISLE, QC, May 23, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
Acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue and Member of Parliament for Gaspésie–Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, announced that the Commission des loisirs de New Carlisle Inc. has been granted $256,216 in financial assistance, in the form of a non-repayable contribution, to improve and renovate the Municipality of New Carlisle's arena.
Key local stakeholders have long been asking for concrete, sustainable measures to improve community and recreational infrastructure. As part of the Canada 150 celebrations, the Government of Canada is proud to invest in projects such as this one by the Commission des loisirs de New Carlisle, which contribute to the strength and vitality of all regions of the country.
Created in 1998 for community and recreational purposes, the Commission des loisirs de New Carlisle is a non-profit organization whose main mission is to encourage and promote sports, particularly curling. For many years, the Commission des loisirs de New Carlisle has been managing the New Carlisle arena, organizing many types of activities accessible to all residents.
The funding awarded through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150), will help the Commission des loisirs de New Carlisle replace the lighting, level the main concrete floor and install a refrigeration system and a multi-sport surface for indoor sports such as volleyball, football, basketball, tennis and badminton.
CED is one of the six regional development agencies under the responsibility of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
