New Contract for Health Care Workers at Valley Manor Long-Term Care Facility
BARRY'S BAY, ON, Dec. 16, 2016 /CNW/ - A new collective agreement at Valley Manor in Barry's Bay will improve stability and guarantee wages and working conditions through to 2019, when redevelopment of the facility is expected to be completed.
The agreement, ratified by members of the United Steelworkers union (USW), also provides for improvements in the workers' pension, benefits and vacation.
"We are happy to have negotiated an agreement that is equal to or greater than what would have been achieved through interest arbitration," said Marty Warren, USW Ontario Director.
"Negotiation is always the best way to ensure that our members' rights are protected. We are confident that improvements in wages and working conditions through the construction period will benefit our members, the residents and the community of Barry's Bay," said Warren
Valley Manor is currently a 90-bed facility in the town of Barry's Bay, 200 km west of Ottawa. The 90 members of USW Local 6946 provide health care, housekeeping and dietary services.
"Long-term care is a growing and vital part of health care in Ontario," said Warren. "Our members are proud of the work they do for members of our communities who deserve the best care possible."
