New contract talks between Vale Inco and USW break down

TORONTO, May 7 /CNW/ - Vale Inco confirmed today that contract talks with United Steelworkers (USW) Locals 6500 and 6200, held in Toronto over the past week with the assistance of mediator Kevin Burkett, have ended.

The parties returned to the bargaining table on Monday, April 26, 2010 for the purpose of trying to settle the strike.

During the talks the company had comprehensive discussions with the USW on the outstanding issues and presented the union with a detailed plan to return employees to work.

No further talks are scheduled.
