New COVID-19 Mental Health Resource Hub Provides Canada's Youth Easy-Access to Support
Jack.org, Kids Help Phone and School Mental Health Ontario partner to provide resources as demand for support continues to increase
TORONTO, April 6, 2020 /CNW/ - Today, Jack.org, School Mental Health Ontario and Kids Help Phone launch a COVID-19 Mental Health Resource Hub, to provide Canada's youth with easy-to-access education, tools, support and the reliable information they need, all in one place. The hub was developed in response to a surge in demand for self-care resources, mental health education and trusted support services during this global pandemic. Kids Help Phone has seen an increase in service demand of more than 300% over the last 2 weeks. It's imperative that we keep mental health top of mind as we all navigate these extraordinary times of physical isolation and reduced access to in-person community services. The Covid-19 Mental Health Resource Hub consists of multimedia; featuring downloadable PDFs, social media posts, and videos, as well as direct links to support services, apps and resources that promote self-care and social connection. Topics include:
- How to support positive mental health
- How to be there for others
- How to stay socially connected
- Tips on how to reach out to others while practicing physical-isolation
- How to practice self-care
- National Mental health resources
"There is no question that COVID-19 has, and will continue to, impact the mental health of people everywhere," said Jesse Hayman, Vice President, Jack.org. "With the need to practice physical distancing, and the demand for mental health support services increasing daily, it is important that our young people have a place to go that provides easy-access to the information and support they need."
"Amidst the worry and uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are beacons of hope, caring, and creativity. Individuals and organizations are thinking in new ways, and working differently, to try to help those who are struggling," said Kathy Short, executive director, School Mental Health Ontario. "School Mental Health Ontario is pleased to work in new ways with our partners at Jack.org and Kids Help Phone to provide a "one-stop" COVID-19 mental health resource hub for young Canadians. "
"During these uncertain times, young people need access to all the mental health supports they can get" said Katherine Hay, President and CEO, Kids Help Phone. "It is inspiring to see communities coming together now more than ever to help each other. Kids Help Phone is honoured to partner with Jack.org and School Mental Health Ontario to provide resources and tools for any young person who needs support. We will get through this but in the meantime we need to find ways to work together and be there for each other."
