MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 3, 2020 /CNW/ - The Government of Ontario has announced a new COVID-19 Recovery Rate. Effective immediately, Alectra residential and small business customers on Time-of-Use rates will pay the COVID-19 Recovery Rate of 12.8 cents per kWh, at all times, seven days a week. The new rate came into effect June 1 and will continue until October 31, 2020.
The Ontario government also announced two new funding programs to help customers with their bills as a result of the pandemic:
- $9 million for the COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) in support of customers struggling with energy bill payments
- $8 million for the COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program for Small Business (CEAP-SB) to support businesses struggling with energy bill payments
Both the CEAP and CEAP-SB applications will be available via the Alectra website once the programs are launched by the government this summer. More information about these programs will be available at that time.
In response to the rapidly evolving pandemic and recognizing the economic uncertainty for customers across the Greater Golden Horseshoe Area associated with the COVID-19 outbreak, Alectra is working with customers to provide flexible payment terms and will not disconnect customers during this time of uncertainty. Account collection actions have been suspended for residential and small business customers until July 31, 2020.
