HALIFAX, July 6, 2018 /CNW/ - The Canadian School Boards Association (CSBA) is proud to announce that Laurie French of the Limestone District School Board (LDSB), a member board of the Ontario Public School Boards' Association (OPSBA), has been acclaimed as the new President of CSBA. Goronwy Price of the Newfoundland and Labrador School Boards Association was also acclaimed as Vice President.
President French is a Past President of OPSBA (serving from June 2016 to June 2018) and is a five-term Trustee with the LDSB, representing the Town of Greater Napanee, Ont. She has had extensive Board and OPSBA committee experiences prior to her time as President, representing Limestone as a Director at the OPSBA Board of Directors table since 2006, participating in Executive Director Recruitment and Performance Appraisals, and chairing Accommodation review teams. She serves as a Director on the Limestone Learning Foundation, the LDSB's successful charitable arm, and is also a board member of the Community Foundation for Lennox and Addington.
"I am proud to serve and represent more than 300 Canadian school boards in national discussions related to advocacy and support for public education," said President French. "As trustees, we have a unique role in serving as a voice of our communities and the only democratically elected officials fully responsible for the present and future success of our most important resource – our children."
President French has two children, Brittany and Tyler, who have both graduated from the public school system. A Registered Nurse, she also works in a senior management position in the Ontario healthcare system.
