New date for inquest into the death of Alwy Al-Nadhir announced

TORONTO, Feb. 22 /CNW/ - Dr. James Edwards, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, today announced that a new date has been set for the inquest into the death of Alwy Al-Nadhir previously scheduled for December 7, 2009.
Mr. Al-Nadhir, 18, died on October 31, 2007, at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto after being shot by an officer of the Toronto Police Service. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Al-Nadhir's death and the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
The inquest will now begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 22, 2010, at the Toronto Coroners Courts, 15 Grosvenor Street. Dr. David Evans will preside as inquest coroner and Ms. Rebecca Edward will be counsel to the coroner.
