New date for inquest into the death of Peter John Haveman announced

THUNDER BAY, ON, Oct. 9 /CNW/ - Dr. David H. Evans , Regional Supervising Coroner for North Region, Thunder Bay Office, today announced that a new date has been set for the inquest into the death of Peter John Haveman originally scheduled to begin on October 19, 2009 .

Mr. Haveman , 18, died on October 11, 2007 , from injuries received during the course of his employment at a construction site in Thunder Bay. Under the Coroners Act, an inquest is mandatory when a worker dies as a result of an accident occurring at a construction project.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Haveman 's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest will now begin 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 , at the Ontario Government Building, 189 Red River Road, Thunder Bay. Dr. David Legge will preside as inquest coroner and Ms. Elaine Burton will be counsel to the coroner.
