New Franklin Bissett balanced fund helps Canadians generate income and growth while managing risk Français
TORONTO, June 23, 2015 /CNW/ - Franklin Templeton Investments Corp. today introduced Franklin Bissett Monthly Income and Growth Fund for Canadian investors who seek income generation and capital appreciation, while looking to reduce portfolio volatility. This Canadian-focused balanced fund invests directly in more traditional equities and fixed income securities, and also invests in less conventional asset classes, with an emphasis on total returns within a disciplined risk management framework.
"Many Canadians are looking for income in a low-interest rate environment but are receiving low yields in traditional fixed income investments," said Ronice Barlow, senior vice president, Franklin Templeton Investments. "Franklin Bissett Monthly Income and Growth Fund seeks to generate consistent monthly income and growth over the long term, while actively managing risk."
Franklin Templeton's Calgary-based Franklin Bissett Investment Management team has expertise in selecting securities across all market capitalizations, the yield spectrum and capital structure. Franklin Bissett Monthly Income and Growth Fund will be co-managed by four of Franklin Bissett's equity and fixed income experts: Garey Aitken, chief investment officer and co-lead manager of Franklin Bissett Canadian Equity Fund, and Tim Caulfield, director of equity research and co-lead manager of Franklin Bissett Canadian Equity Fund, will oversee the fund's equity holdings; while Tom O'Gorman, director of fixed income and co-lead manager of Franklin Bissett Core Plus Bond Fund, and Darcy Briggs, co-lead manager of Franklin Bissett Core Plus Bond Fund, will be in charge of the fund's fixed income investments. These managers have more than 20 years of industry experience and over 10 years with Franklin Bissett Investment Management.
Franklin Bissett Monthly Income and Growth Fund's monthly income is primarily derived from Canadian and US dividends, interest income and option premiums. The balanced strategy focuses mainly on Canadian equity and fixed income markets with up to 30 per cent of its exposure in the US and abroad.
"We focus on investing in dividend-paying or income-producing equity securities of high quality businesses with long-term profitability and growth profiles, which have a proven ability to deliver consistent and growing levels of dividends over time," said Aitken. "This is paired with fixed income strategies within Canada and abroad."
Having served Canadian investors with consistent, disciplined investment strategies for 32 years, Franklin Bissett prides itself on its multi-asset class flexibility, which is focused on identifying the best opportunities in a collaborative environment by pairing bottom-up research with top-down portfolio objectives. In addition, Franklin Bissett is supported by Franklin Templeton Investments' global platform of trading, risk management and reporting, compliance and one of the largest global fixed income research platforms available.
