CALGARY, June 26, 2014 /CNW/ - After a media firestorm over their first billboard that said "The sun is the main driver of climate change. Not you. Not CO2.," Friends of Science Society of Calgary have posted a new message on digital billboards in Alberta proclaiming "Global Warming Stopped Naturally 16+ Years Ago."
The Friends of Science has launched a counter-campaign to Greenpeace, which in late May sent letters to corporations threatening that directors may face legal liabilities based on their companies' statements on climate change 'denial.'
A science-based rebuttal to the Greenpeace letter has been posted on Friends of Science web-site and will be sent to all relevant corporate officers and directors that Greenpeace targeted. Greenpeace did not mention the current 16+ year 'pause' in global warming in their intimidating letter to corporate officers.
Friends of Science point to the growing divergence between climate models and observed temperatures, indicating that the climate sensitivity of carbon dioxide has been greatly over estimated.
Dr. Ross McKitrick, renown economist and author stated temperature trends drop off after 2000 and cooling appears to be in progress. His presentation is posted on Friends of Science website.
An image of Friends of Science new billboard is also emblazoned on a report entitled "Power. Full Benefits" that counters a recent Pembina Institute report that is pushing for a renewable energy in Alberta.
The rationale for renewables is entirely premised on the alleged threat of global warming due to carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel use. Pembina has been calling for early closure of Alberta's coal fleet and a move to more renewables, using what Friends of Science say are misrepresentative statistics and scare tactics.
The Friends of Science report points out that the once 'green' Germany, like Alberta, has massive coal reserves and is now building 20+ coal plants.
About
Friends of Science have spent a decade reviewing a broad spectrum of literature on climate change and have concluded the sun is the main driver of climate change, not carbon dioxide (CO2). The core group of the Friends of Science is made up of retired earth and atmospheric scientists.
