EAST GWILLIMBURY, ON, Sept. 8, 2014 /CNW/ - The Honourable Peter Van Loan, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Member of Parliament for York–Simcoe, the Honourable Steven Del Duca, Ontario Minister of Transportation and Bruce McCuaig, President and CEO of Metrolinx, announced the completion of the new GO bus storage and maintenance facility in East Gwillimbury. The new facility makes it easier for GO Transit to meet increasing demand for GO bus service in York Region.
The new facility includes indoor bus storage for up to 36 buses; indoor service bays for fuelling, bus wash, inspection, cleaning and running repairs; building service support areas including equipment and storage rooms; and staff facilities and parking. Being closer to Highway 404, the new facility will also be better positioned to supply more express service. The facility aims to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Silver certification through the use of energy efficient systems, such as recycling water from the bus wash, LED lighting fixtures, and other green initiatives. It will also feature an on-site fuelling station that will result in less travelling for buses not in service, saving money, time and reducing gas emissions.
