TORONTO, June 16, 2014 /CNW/ - On Wednesday, June 18, 2014, OHRC Chief Commissioner Barbara Hall will release the Policy on preventing discrimination based on mental health disabilities and addictions. The Policy offers guidance on how to assess, handle and resolve human rights matters related to mental health and/or addictions.
Under Ontario's Human Rights Code, people with mental health disabilities and addictions have equal rights and opportunities without discrimination in areas such as jobs, housing and services. Yet, they continue to face considerable discrimination, stigma and social exclusion. The new Policy aims to assist them as well as employers, housing and service providers, advocates and others.
