New management transforms Taboo Resort into a year-round wonderland

Outdoor winter fun, spa pleasures and Fireside Pub enhance an Ontario treasure

GRAVENHURST, ON, Dec. 12, 2012 /CNW/ - Famous as a must-play for golfers from spring through fall, new management has transformed Muskoka's Taboo Resort into a year-round retreat and is launching its first winter season in a decade with holiday promotions that would turn even Scrooge's head.

"When you've got a location like this, 1,000 acres of majestic white pines, mature red oaks and granite outcroppings along pristine Lake Muskoka, you want to share its beauty in every season," said new General Manager Yannis Paravalos, who brings many years of experience managing resorts in Europe, the Caribbean and North America. Checking in, guests will find that about half of Taboo's 85 rooms have been redesigned by the award-winning Cecconi Simone to create comfortable and harmonious settings for families and couples. The spacious rooms are warm and inviting for a cold winter's night, with gas fireplaces, deep soaking tubs and a breathtaking view of Lake Muskoka.

After a day enjoying diverse recreational activities including cross-country skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, a skating pond and snowmobiling - or instead of them - guests can let themselves be pampered in Taboo's new 5,000 square-foot spa.

Inside the Resort's elegant Elements Restaurant, headed by Executive Chef Andrew Dymond, is a Culinary Theatre where the Chefs are the show at the horseshoe-shaped dining counter where they prepare a 6 course meal right before your eyes. It has been complemented by the new Fireside Pub where guests can enjoy informal dining and cozy activities such as pool, shuffle board and darts.

To introduce the unique pleasures of Taboo in winter, the resort is offering its Discover Taboo package -- overnight accommodations for two and a $50 credit for resort spa services or food and beverage - for $185 per couple.

The resort is also offering a Taboo New Year's Eve, including overnight accommodation for two, Fireside Pub buffet dinner or four-course dinner in Elements Restaurant, with live entertainment, dancing, champagne toast and a buffet breakfast to refuel in the morning. That package is $345 per couple for the Fireside Pub dinner, and $395 per couple for the Elements Restaurant dinner.
