New moisture conversion tables for beans and revised tables for soybeans, canola and peas now available

WINNIPEG, July 22, 2014 /CNW/ - New moisture meter conversion tables are available for small red beans and otebo beans.  As well, revised moisture meter conversion tables are available for soybeans, canola and peas. Tables for these and other grains are available on the Canadian Grain Commission's web site, www.grainscanada.gc.ca.

Quick facts

• Moisture meter tables are for use with Model 919/3.5 and Model 393/3.5 moisture meters. The Canadian Grain Commission also provides regressions (also called calibrations) for Model 1200A and Model 1200D moisture meters. When adjustments are made, updated regressions are given to dealers of the equipment.
• Tables give users an accurate reading of grain's moisture content. Users can then make the right storage decisions for their grain.
• Moisture meter tables are based on data from the Canadian Grain Commission's annual monitoring of the new crop. Tables are revised only after monitoring results show a consistent bias of plus or minus 0.2% compared to reference oven results for three consecutive years (e.g. the bias is plus 0.3% one year, then plus 0.25% the next year and then plus 0.2% in the third year) or if the reference method has changed.
• The revised table for soybeans will result in lower moisture readings by an average of 0.3% compared to the previous table. The revised table for canola will result in lower moisture readings by an average of 0.4%. The new pea table will result in lower moisture readings by an average of 0.3%.
