DAYSPRING, NS, June 29, 2017 /CNW/ - The governments of Canada and Nova Scotia, along with the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg, are committed to investing in local infrastructure that ensures Canadians and their families have access to modern, reliable water and wastewater services that meet their needs. These investments safeguard the health and well-being of residents, protect provincial waterways and preserve local ecosystems.
Bernadette Jordan, Member of Parliament for South Shore–St. Margaret's, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, along with Mark Furey, Nova Scotia Minister of Justice and Attorney General, and Carolyn Bolivar-Getson, Mayor of the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg, today announced more than $15.7 million in joint federal-provincial-municipal funding to improve wastewater management along the LaHave River.
Work involves removing up to 600 straight pipes that are currently discharging sewage into the LaHave River and replacing them with septic systems. This important upgrade to the wastewater network will significantly improve water quality in the river, benefitting residents and visitors and contributing to a cleaner environment for today and the future.
