Two out of three want reversal of ban on plastic shopping bags in Toronto
TORONTO, Nov. 8, 2012 /CNW/ - Today the Reverse the Bag Ban coalition released a Toronto city-wide poll of over 5,000 people confirming that two out of three or 65 per cent of Torontonians oppose banning plastic shopping bags. They, instead, prefer to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Reverse the Bag Ban spokesperson Kevin Gaudet said of the poll "the vast majority of Torontonians clearly support efforts to protect jobs and the environment by reversing the ban on plastic shopping bags".
Gaudet went further pointing out that "a majority of councillors (27) oppose the ban. With this further evidence of public support, we call on the rest of council to join them; to stand up for jobs and the environment by reversing the bag ban."
Last week the new Reverse the Bag Ban coalition launched their website - www.reversethebagban.ca - and videos calling on the Mayor and council to stand up for jobs and the environment by voting down the bag ban.
The Reverse the Bag Ban coalition is a rare mix of environmentalists, manufacturers, recyclers, accountability advocates, trade association and business associations concerned about the impact on over 5,000 jobs in the Toronto and the harmful impacts on the environment if the plastic bag ban is allowed to take effect this coming January 1st, 2013.
Poll Methodology
The interactive touch response poll was conducted by iFusion Research September 20th, 2012 with 5,019 respondents. The results are accurate +/- 1.4% 19 times out of 20.
