MONTRÉAL, Jan. 18, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Starting Monday, January 30, MAtv Montréal's new schedule will include a batch of new programs that grew out of projects submitted by citizens. MAtv is representative of the entire population of Montréal and reflects the richness of all its communities. It promotes participation by citizens and community organizations in every borough.
New English shows
Studios, Lofts & Jam Spaces (Thursday, 7:30 p.m.) is a series of features that follow local artists from their first moments of inspiration to the time they bring their art to the public. The show lifts the curtain on the vibrant world of Montréal studios and lofts to show the creative processes that happen there. Jazz Yoga Ayurveda (Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.) helps viewers discover the benefits of ayurveda yoga, which synchronizes movement and breathing. In each episode, the host demonstrates a variety of poses and exercises that energize body and mind.
New French shows
The documentary series TEMPO! (premieres Wednesday, February 1 at 9:30 p.m., simulcast on Facebook Live) looks at the performing arts in Montréal. Performing artists discuss their art and their lives. They also talk to artists working in other disciplines to show how their creativity, nurtured by influences from around the world. Each episode is a series of personal encounters and exchanges culminating with a performance by the artist and his or her musicians. Sommelier and TV personality Jessica Harnois hosts the series Le goût des affaires (Saturday, 11:30 p.m.). Each episode twins an experienced businessperson with a young entrepreneur, who tells Jessica and the established businessperson about a specific challenge he or she must meet in getting their startup off the ground. Their search for a solution winds through the streets of Montréal and ends with a toast over a fine bottle of wine.
Focus on Montréal
Mise À Jour Montréal (Monday, 8 p.m.) is back for another season. Host Sophie Vallerand covers the issues that affect Montrealers' daily lives in a relatable style. Montréalité (Monday and Wednesday, 6 p.m.), hosted by Myriam Fehmiu, provides a forum for community organizations and individuals working for the welfare of their fellow citizens. CityLife (Tuesday, 8 p.m.), hosted by Richard Dagenais, and Montreal Billboard (Tuesday and Thursday, 6 p.m.), hosted by Kim Sullivan, give Anglo Montrealers a voice.
On the cultural front
Premières vues (Tuesday, 9 p.m.), the only show devoted entirely to Québec cinema, is back to the delight of all movie lovers. Frédéric Corbet will interview Céline Bonnier, Sophie Cadieux, Adib Alkhalidey, Paul Ahmarani, Sophie Goyette and many other Quebec film people. Figures marquantes de notre histoire, hosted by historian Éric Bédard, is also back for a second season with another series of profiles of important figures in Québec history: Irma LeVasseur, Joseph-Armand Bombardier, Gratien Gélinas, Thérèse Casgrain, Jacques Parizeau. Ma première Place des Arts, hosted by Marieme, will be back in March, bringing emerging Francophone singers to the television screen.
In the thick of the action
For junior hockey fans, Hockey de la LHJMQ will carry a dozen Quebec Major Junior Hockey League regular-season games on Friday nights. Host Mikaël Lalancette, play-by-play announcer Mario Aubé and colour commentator Alain Rajotte give audiences a chance to see the future stars of our national sport.
