New senior appointment at Newcrest Mining Limited

MELBOURNE, Australia, March 13, 2012 /CNW/ - Newcrest Mining Limited announced today that it has appointed Scott Langford, currently Partner and co-leader of the Energy and Resources Practice Group at the leading law firm Allens Arthur Robinson (AAR), as General Counsel & Company Secretary.

Mr Langford will take up his new position on 1 July 2012.

A senior legal practitioner at AAR since 1992 and a partner since 1995, Mr Langford has been a key legal adviser to major mining and resource companies, including Newcrest, and is well respected across the global industry.

The appointment is part of a transitional arrangement. Newcrest's Executive General Manager, Corporate Affairs¹ Stephen Creese, intends to retire in July 2013 after almost four years with the company. Until then, Mr Creese will retain his external affairs responsibilities, with the addition of the important community relations portfolio.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Greg Robinson, welcomed the appointment, which followed a comprehensive search process.
