Montreal, April 8, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - As part of Espace pour la vie's 2019 programming, the Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan is showing Passport to the Universe, a brand-new film that relates directly to the theme Trace the History of Evolution that our museums are focusing on this year. The film takes us on a journey from the Earth to the largest structures in the universe, seeking the answer to a fundamental question: Where do we fit in the vastness of interstellar space?
PASSPORT TO THE UNIVERSE (AS OF APRIL 11, 2019)
A ticket gives you admission to all the day's shows at the Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan.
An Unforgettable Voyage into the Cosmos
Originally produced in 2005 by the American Museum of Natural History in New York, in collaboration with NASA, Passport to the Universe was totally remastered in 2017 with the support of the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. Featuring spectacular images of unprecedented accuracy, this new version of the film is based on the most recent global astronomical discoveries. By tracing the history of the universe, you'll be better able to appreciate the enormity of the cosmos and its incredible evolution.
Guided by the narration of Tom Hanks in English, or Anne Dorval in the French version, you'll wing your way through the rings of Saturn, enter the heart of the Orion Nebula and then venture out into the extragalactic zoo before jumping into an imaginary black hole and returning to Earth. A fabulous cosmic journey, a futuristic voyage in which science, art and emotion blend into one!
NEW: THE THOUGHT-PROVOKING EXHIBITION WOMEN WITH IMPACT
To date, some 1,700 craters on the Moon have been catalogued and named, and yet only 30 of them have been given women's names. Three famous women who have lunar craters named after them are chemist Marie Curie, astronaut Judith Arlene Resnik and astronomer Williamina Fleming. The exhibition Women with Impact, consisting of 30 sketches of lunar craters by Montreal artist Bettina Forget, pays tribute to these women, but also, at the same time, draws attention to the underrepresentation of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Trace the History of Evolution
In 2019, Espace pour la vie will be exploring nature and biodiversity through the lens of evolution. How have phenomena taking place over thousands of years resulted in the fascinating history of life on our planet? A complex, exciting story to investigate and discover!
Espace pour la vie is made up of four attractions on the same site: the Biodôme, Insectarium, Jardin botanique and Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan. These four prestigious municipal institutions form Canada's largest natural science museum complex. Together, they are launching a daring, creative urban movement, encouraging all of us to rethink the connection between humankind and nature and cultivate a new way of living.
