New SunRail Train Station in Winter Park, FL, Features Craftsman Style AZEK Trim and Mouldings
SCRANTON, Pa., March 13, 2014 /CNW/ - Staying true to the Craftsman Style of the area, the new Winter Park, FL, SunRail station features simple but elegant details designed with AZEK Trim and AZEK Mouldings. The Winter Park Station, which officially opened on March 3, 2014, is the first Florida station to be completed along the new train line. The $1.2 million main station building was constructed after the old depot, built in 1962, was demolished to accommodate the new high-speed commuter SunRail line.
Eventually stretching more than 60 miles throughout Central Florida, SunRail plans to reinvent rail travel for commuters and tourists across the area. The first phase of SunRail includes 12 stations spanning 32 miles from Volusia County to the Orlando Airport and downtown, with AmTrak continuing to use the line for long-distance travelers.
And although Winter Park has had a railroad in town for more than 100 years, it now has a new station that will stand the test of time. With 10 ft. high AZEK-wrapped tapered columns and geometric custom lattice cut on a computerized router from large AZEK Sheets, the station reflects the classic looks of Florida Craftsman style, according to Andy Slagel, Vice President at Finyl Sales. "It is typical Craftsman with clean lines and not overly ornate," he said. Finyl Sales is the fabricator and dealer that supplied the AZEK Trim and architectural mouldings to the rail station's general contractor, Pillar Construction.
Working closely with their installation partner James Ushko of J+S Ushko, Slagel said the single story main station building is girded with structural steel posts to support the wrapped columns. Between the columns, custom lattice made from AZEK Sheet features diamond and circle shaped designs. The soffits were trimmed with AZEK quarter round and cove moulding profiles. "Just about anywhere on the building that is white, it's AZEK Trim or Mouldings," said Slagel. "AZEK provides the railroad with lower maintenance and a beautiful appearance for decades to come."
Scheduled to be operational on May 1, 2014, the $1.3 billion commuter rail is expected to generate $8.8 billion for the region with business expansion, job creation, reduced commuter time and shopping in central Florida.
