MONTREAL, July 7, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM) and its foundation have found new partners within the Montreal community, allies who have agreed to devote time and energy together with Mr. Daniel Johnson, the Chairman of the campaign Cabinet, to support the new CHUM, this mega health care project with international implications. This campaign aims to collect $300M for the continuous improvement of patient care.
Mr. André Chagnon will take part in the Cabinet serving as Honorary Patron and Mr. Serge Godin as Vice-Chairman, to stand with Mr. Yves Des Groseillers, already in this position. The Cabinet is also delighted to welcome Mrs. Monique Jérôme-Forget who will join ambassadors Messrs. Michael Sabia, Guy Savard and Lorne Trottier. In addition, Mmes. Françoise Bertrand, Marie-José Nadeau, Kim Thomassin and Messrs. André Caillé, Guy Langlois, Michel Leblanc and Serge Savard will join the ranks of the members who already champion the cause: Mmes. Marie-Berthe Des Groseillers and Jo-Anne Hudon Duchesne, Messrs. Yvon Deschamps and Luigi Liberatore, in addition to Drs. Guy Leclerc and Jacques Turgeon. These supporters can always count on the presence of governors in the Cabinet. It should be noted that we mentioned the late Mr. Luc Beauregard among the governors to pay tribute to this great man, who was one of the first partners of this campaign (see the pdf of entire Cabinet make-up).
One of the most significant fundraising campaigns at the outset of the 21st century
Since the start of the campaign Giving Ourselves the Best in Health Care, the results are clear. More than 60% of the $300M goal has been reached. In terms of construction, more than 75% of the new CHUM has been completed. According to Mr. Daniel Johnson, this anchor in the future Quartier de la santé health district will be enviable in several aspects, especially due to the wide-ranging benefits both to the economy and to society: "The Cabinet members and I are working hard for this international scale project which will promote the efforts of our researchers and attract renowned physicians. Our goal seeks to make of Montreal a veritable pillar in the field of health."
The new CHUM: an ambitious endeavour
"Give the best of health care: it's the rallying cry every day for over 13,000 professionals, doctors, nurses and CHUM staff members. In a few months, the first patients will cross the threshold of the new hospital, a place dedicated to healing. Already, a research centre with cutting-edge technology has begun operation and a simulation learning centre is fully functional. In 2020, the new CHUM will be complete thanks to the backing of an entire community," explained Dr. Jacques Turgeon, Chief Executive Officer of the CHUM.
"The Fondation is proud of the commitments that have already been made. It is by our combined efforts that we will help to offer the best care available to patients. The new CHUM will reflect the contribution of each and every one," said Mrs. Marie-Berthe Des Groseillers, Chairwoman of the Board for the Fondation du CHUM. Mrs. Jo-Anne Hudon Duchesne, Interim Executive Director of the Fondation, adds that donors are the crucial element in reaching the campaign goal: "More than ever, we see our dream being fulfilled. Many thanks to all our donors who have already become involved and to those who will in order to give the best of health care."
