New survey confirms that almost 9 of 10 Ontarians view health care as an important election issue
TORONTO, June 3, 2014 /CNW/ - A new public opinion poll confirms that almost 9 of 10 Ontarians (87.9%) feel that health care is an important issue to them personally. Further, more than two thirds of Ontarians (67.6%) say that a provincial party with a strong platform on health care would have an impact on their likely vote for a party.
"Ontarians value our publicly-funded health care system. Yet there's been little meaningful debate in the election about health care and each party's plans for improving access to care and ensuring the system's sustainability," said Dr. Ved Tandan, President of the Ontario Medical Association.
"This is a concern to Ontario's doctors and our health care partners. Today's poll sends a clear message to the leaders that Ontarians need to hear more about health care before they head to the polls and elect a new government," continued Tandan. "We look forward to hearing tonight's leaders' debate and hope to hear more about health care."
"The survey results are clear, health care represents a significant political opportunity for any political party in the Ontario election," according to Nik Nanos, President of Nanos Research.
The survey was commissioned by the Ontario Medical Association. This random telephone survey of 500 Ontarians was conducted between May 22nd and 26th, 2014, as part of an Ontario omnibus survey by Nanos Research. The dual frame sample included both land and cell-lines across Ontario. The results were statistically checked and weighted by age and gender using the latest Census information and the sample is geographically stratified to be representative of the population of Ontario. Individuals randomly called using random digit dialling with a maximum of five call backs. The margin of error for a random survey of 500 Ontarians is ±4.4 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
