Internationally renowned Black Panther comic author Nnedi Okorafor to headline
DOWNTOWN DES MOINES, Iowa, Sept. 27, 2018 /CNW/ -- A new festival celebrating stories, books and authors is coming to Downtown Des Moines (DSM). The first annual DSM Book Festival will be held March 30, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Capital Square and Cowles Commons.
The DSM Book Festival will feature internationally-acclaimed authors, book club discussions led by featured commentators, hands-on activities, children's programming, food, drink, live music and more.
Black Panther Author to Headline
A central stage will showcase author readings, poetry slams, creative contests and will highlight a variety of singers/songwriters.
Nnedi Okorafor, who wrote "Black Panther: Long Live the King," will be a headlining author. A writer of fantasy and science-fiction books, Okorafor has published several comic and book titles including "Lagoon" and "Who Fears Death." The latter is being adapted by HBO.
"From unique art activities and engaging book talks to spirited discussions paired with samples of wine, the DSM Book Festival will offer fun for book lovers of all ages," said Colleen Murphy, Downtown Events Director at the Greater Des Moines Partnership. "We can't wait to celebrate the region's favorite stories in a festival atmosphere in Downtown DSM."
The DSM Book Festival is produced by the Greater Des Moines Partnership. Admission is free.
