"While we are pleased with the announcement last week that the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services plans to hire an additional 2,000 correctional officers over three years, our jail system continues to suffer from crumbling infrastructure, a shortfall of rehabilitative programs for inmates with mental health disorders and substance abuse issues, and proper health and safety training for our officers," said Thomas. "These problems are especially evident at EMDC."
The tour of EMDC will start at 12 noon and finish approximately 90 minutes later with media availability to follow.
