News conference - Photo/filming opportunity - War Amps marks 95 years of artificial limbs then & now at Richmond Hill Child Amputee Seminar

RICHMOND HILL, ON, Oct. 25, 2013 /CNW/ - Tiffany Ross, 7, of Toronto, is proof that being an amputee is not a barrier to living a full and active life. At a news conference that will open The War Amps 2013 Ontario Child Amputee (CHAMP) Seminar, Tiffany, who was born a left arm amputee, will demonstrate her myoelectric arm and the recreational device she uses for play.

The session will also feature other Champs from across the province demonstrating the limbs and recreational devices they use to overcome their amputations and achieve their goals, as well as touch on the incredible advances in artificial limbs over 95 years.

Where:	The Sheraton Parkway, 600 Highway 7 East, Richmond Hill (Thornhill Room)

Running October 25 to 27, the seminar will be a life-changing experience for Champs and their parents, covering everything from raising an amputee child, to dealing with teasing and staring, to seeing the latest developments in artificial limbs. Media are welcome to attend the sessions during the weekend. Interviews with the Champs can be arranged at any time.

The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program is built on the Winner's Circle philosophy, which encourages child amputees (Champs) to accept their amputations and develop a positive approach to challenges. CHAMP offers comprehensive services to Canadian child amputees and their families, such as:

● Financial assistance for artificial limbs and recreational devices
● Regional CHAMP seminars, which provide a forum for young amputees and their parents to share information and advice and see new developments in artificial limbs
● Peer counseling and emotional support through programs like Matching Mothers
