NHL players demonstrate potential of mental training technology from APEXK
New device developed for elite athletes
MONTREAL, Aug. 22, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - APEXK Inc. today introduced a new technology, part of the first edition of APEXK SECRET CAMP, which pushes the boundaries of athletic performance to new heights. The technology focusses on athletic and brain training, helping professional and amateur athletes improve their mental skills while practicing their sport. This achievement represents a major breakthrough in enhancing athletic performance.
"In the vast majority of sports, we have reached limits imposed by the body," said Dr. David Tinjust, President of APEXK Inc. "My research has led me to discover that we still have enormous potential for cognitive development. We could for example help accelerate decision-making and enable athletes to react more quickly during the game."
To prove the technology's worth, about 20 players from the National Hockey League(NHL), the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the National Collegiate Athletic Association took part in a demonstration attended by sports reporters and hockey professionals. Among them Maxime Talbot, Louis Leblanc, Simon Després, Ondrej Pavelec, Martin Havlat, Ruslan Fedotenko, Mikael Frolik, Zbynek and Milan Michalek, Jonathan Huberdeau, Derek and Larkin Jacobson and Bruno Gervais tested the technology while playing on the ice. Étienne Marcoux, among the first athletes to trial the new invention, also attended the event.
"The fact that so many professional players jumped at the chance to take part in the demo clearly shows that our technology meets the needs of high-calibre athletes," said Sébastien Bordeleau, former NHL player and associate of Dr. Tinjust. "The APEXK device is controlled from an iPad and offers a user-friendly way for coaches and personal trainers to create programs tailored to each player."
The product of more than 15 years of research led by Dr. Tinjust, the APEXK device is proof of the ample potential of technology to assist in athletic training. This ground-breaking method, designed to help athletes perform at their best, promises to revolutionize the world of sports by heightening their ability to use mental faculties such as concentration, awareness and reaction time.
Initially developed for hockey, the technology can be readily adapted to most other sports. While the device is currently available only to professional league teams, APEXK intends to ultimately offer it to all athletes.
APEXK is a partner in the Complexe scientifique, sportif et éducatif de Lanaudière, construction of which is scheduled to begin in October, 2012. This new cutting-edge research facility, located just off Autoroute 25 in Saint-Roch-de-l'Achigan, Quebec, will house the APEXK Institute. This partnership gives APEXK regular access to a rink, allowing the team to strengthen their research and development efforts, and provides local hockey players with a year-round training facility.
