Niagara Hospitality Hosts Tour de Greenbelt
Henry of Pelham Winery hub of activity for Tour's most popular routes
TORONTO, Sept. 9 /CNW/ - Albert Einstein thought of the Theory of Relativity while riding his bike, and it's no surprise, the sights and sounds while cycling are certainly inspiring. On September 11th and 12th, it's possible to imagine a genius idea of your own. Be inspired by the beauty and hospitality of the Niagara Region while you pedal through farmlands, wineries and trails at the Tour de Greenbelt.
"The Tour de Greenbelt routes in the Niagara Region have always been our busiest," said Burkhard Mausberg, President of the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation. "People love the Niagara region and all that it has to offer and we're thrilled to have such a great host as Henry of Pelham."
A fun event for both families and cycling enthusiasts alike, the Tour offers "choose your distance" routes for each day - catering to all cycling abilities. Family routes range from 1-10km and are 100% traffic-free - perfect for little ones in trailers, on tricycles, or with training wheels. Mid-level Meander routes are no more than 30km and long-haul routes top out at 55km. Bringing back a past tour favourite, a 100km route has been added for September 25th and 26th in York and Durham for serious cyclers looking to test their endurance at the end of the season.
"We call it a fresh air festival on wheels," explains Tour Director, Peter Hart. "The really great thing that people like about this ride is that it's not a race. The Tour de Greenbelt is a way for people to get out with their loved ones and experience all that the Greenbelt has to offer."
Highlights of this weekend's ride in Niagara include a cycling tour around the Henry of Pelham vineyard and kids can participate in the vineyard's "Dirty Hands Project" where they will learn how to plant a vine and be given one to take home. Up to two kids 12 and under can participate for free with an adult registration for $45. Included in the price is the post-ride party where riders enjoy freshly prepared Greenbelt cuisine.
