Niagara Region Wind Corporation Announces $9.2 Million Community Fund for the Township of West Lincoln; Invites Applications for the Board of the Newly Established Foundation.
WELLANDPORT, ON, July 3, 2013 /CNW/ - Niagara Region Wind Corporation (NRWC) announced today the establishment of an estimated $9.2 million community fund for the Township of West Lincoln. The fund will be run by a newly established foundation - the Niagara Region Community Vibrancy Fund Foundation for the Township of West Lincoln (The Foundation), and will fund local West Lincoln charities and causes, through an established funding application program.
At a press conference earlier today, NRWC's Chief Executive Officer Mervin Croghan joined local area landowners and the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce to announce the establishment of The Foundation, which will be overseen by an 11-15 member local board.
Committed to giving back to the local community, NRWC has established this fund to follow through on its commitment to being good neighbours. "NRWC is thrilled to be able to bring these funds to the local West Lincoln community," said NRWC Chief Executive Officer Mervin Croghan. "It has always been our utmost priority to invest in the communities in which we operate, and today we're thrilled to be able to act on our commitments."
In addition to these funds, NRWC's 230 MW wind power project will be sourcing over $300 million of infrastructure locally, contributing over $10 million in property taxes, and will be attracting over 770 annual direct and indirect jobs during development and construction of the project, and 110 permanent jobs.
"Renewable energy projects in Niagara and across Ontario are cleaning up our air and creating good, local jobs. We're focused on building clean, reliable and affordable energy, while bringing more benefits to local communities," stated Ontario Minister of Energy Bob Chiarelli.
The Foundation will fund not-for-profit community associations and other local organizations and groups focused on providing social services, sports and recreation, education, training, and environmental protection, among others. Funds will be distributed annually, and a formal funding application process will be announced in the coming months.
NRWC is inviting members of the public and local business community to submit applications to join the Board, which will be reviewed by a newly-established three-member Nominating Committee. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit their resumes to [email protected] for consideration, no later than August 15, 2013. The Board will be announced on September 3, 2013.
