MARKHAM, ON, Feb. 9, 2012 /CNW/ - Nightingale Informatix Corporation (TSXV: NGH) "Nightingale" or "Company", an application service provider (ASP) of electronic medical record (EMR) software and related services congratulates three of the Company's highly respected physicians who have been honoured by various Healthcare IT awards committees for excellence and innovation in their use of Health IT and Social Media in medical practice.
"On behalf of Nightingale, I would like to congratulate three of our valued clients, Dr. Mike Wadden, Uptown Health Centre and Quinte Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, for being recognized as technology innovators in healthcare through the respective industry awards they won," said President and CEO of Nightingale Informatix Corporation. "We believe these awards are a strong testament to the increasingly important role technology tools have in enhancing patient care, something that is key to us at Nightingale. We pride ourselves in being a technology leader with our web-based EMR and patient portal offerings, and we are very proud to serving such forward-thinking healthcare practitioners."
Dr. Mike Wadden received the CMA's 2011 Community-Based Physician Leader/Innovator Award presented by COACH
Dr. Mike Wadden, a family physician who has been one of Nova Scotia's leaders in promoting the use of EMRs has received the CMA's 2011 Community-Based Physician Leader/Innovator Award, which is presented annually by Canada's Health Informatics Association (COACH). In 2006, he was an early adopter of the provincial electronic medical record system (Nightingale On Demand), and empowers his patients through his website (www.DrMike.squarespace.com). Dr. Wadden has created an epicentre for innovation in his practice by using the clinical functionality of his EMR outside of the normal scope of most of his peers. He has been able to not only improve the quality and delivery of care provided to his patients, but been able to ensure his practice is efficiently managed.
"We are extremely proud of Dr. Wadden's accomplishment, he is a true leader in every sense of the word." said Sam Chebib. "Not only does Dr. Wadden volunteer a great deal of his time to work with the Nova Scotia Provincial Primary Health Care Information Management (PHIM) EMR program to promote EMR adoption among his colleagues, but has provided leadership for new physicians establishing practices in his community."

Uptown Health Centre, a client and partner of Nightingale, is the recipient of Canada Health Infoway's ImagineNation Outcomes Challenge Early Adopter Award. Uptown Health Centre won in the e-Scheduling category for myPatientAccess, a secure web patient portal powered by Nightingale that offers patients access to their health information and additional health management tools. The e-Scheduling feature of myPatientAccess qualified as an early adopter based on its functionality, which allows patients to book appointments online without interaction with another person.
"We at Uptown Health Centre are committed to supporting eHealth strategies for Ontarians by leveraging advanced EMR and PHR solutions with the help of Nightingale On Demand and myPatientAccess," said Dr. Kaushal of Uptown Health Centre. "We understand that in order to move our National eHealth strategy forward, we need to inspire our peers to adopt innovative IT solutions for the betterment of our health care system."
Quinte Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine is the winner of B Sharp Technologies' Healthcare Social Media Contest, B Social.
Quinte Pediatrics is a devoted team of healthcare professionals led by Dr. Paul Dempsey, who diagnose and treat acute medical conditions, as well as provide care for young patients with complex medical conditions and special needs.
"When we were initially searching for EMR vendors, we were attracted to Nightingale's approach to healthcare with its ASP solution and integrated patient portal" said Dr. Paul Dempsey, Director and Owner of Quinte Pediatrics. "We had outgrown what our previous EMR provider offered, and wanted to partner with a vendor who shared our values of innovation and quality of care. We saw Nightingale's MyPatientAccess as a true differentiator in the EMR market, and saw great value in the way we would be able to communicate and connect with our patients. This was the pivotal first step in our plan to create an online community for Quinte Pediatrics, and as you can see, we are well underway." While Quinte Pediatrics has already established a social media presence using tools such as Facebook, FourSquare and blogging, they plan to use their prize to purchase software and equipment that will allow them to create quality video content in-house. Their goal is to give their online audience an interactive, 'behind-the-scenes' view of Quinte Pediatrics. Yet another step towards making their patients feel like they're truly part of the experience.
