Nightingale on Demand Achieves Canada Health Infoway Certification
First electronic medical record system to receive national mark for privacy, security and interoperability
TORONTO, March 22, 2012 /CNW/ - Canada Health Infoway (Infoway) announced today that Nightingale on Demand, a software product developed by Nightingale Informatix Corporation (TSX-V: NGH), (Nightingale), is the first product in Canada to successfully achieve electronic medical record (EMR) certification.
Infoway has developed EMR certification in concert with its jurisdictional partners, to ensure that EMR solutions conform to national and international standards for privacy, security and interoperability.
"We salute this achievement by Nightingale because it is fundamental to Infoway's mandate that authorized health care providers, such as physicians and nurse practitioners, have ready access to accurate and comprehensive information about their patients through secure connections to electronic health record systems," says Richard Alvarez, President & CEO, Canada Health Infoway.
In order to achieve certification, Nightingale on Demand underwent an assessment process to demonstrate that it met or exceeded the high standards set by Infoway Certification Services.
"Nightingale on Demand provides the highest levels of security and privacy to ensure patient information is properly secure and protected," said John Bodolai, Executive Vice President of Nightingale. "We are extremely proud to be the first vendor to receive EMR certification from Canada Health Infoway. Nightingale continues to lead the EMR industry in Canada; both in terms of certification, as well as in terms of the adoption of its EMR by physicians."
Nightingale is making considerable strides in the development and implementation of EMR software, and has successfully implemented Nightingale on Demand across Canada. EMR systems, like Nightingale on Demand, allow health care professionals to enter, store and retrieve notes from their patient interactions along with information about allergies, immunizations and prescribed medications. They also provide secure access to repositories holding information about lab results, radiology reports and hospital stays. EMRs help support and coordinate the work of interdisciplinary health teams, as well.
Infoway's strategic efforts to hasten EMR adoption and use at the point of care in community and out-patient care settings, leverages and connects to the work that has already been done to build jurisdictional electronic health record systems that allow authorized clinicians access to key information about their patients' health histories.
