OTTAWA, July 6, 2017 /CNW/ - The Task Force on the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) is seeking interested candidates to be part of the CMAJ Governance Council. The Council will be set up later this year and will steward and promote the overall well-being and integrity of the journal, including safeguarding editorial independence. It will also ensure that CMAJ's strategy and business objectives are aligned with the journal's mission, vision and values.
Four positions are open on the CMAJ Governance Council:
- Peer editor;
- Practising clinician (CMA member);
- Academic physician (CMA member); and
- Scholarly publishing expert with financial expertise.
Nominations will be accepted until July 28, 2017. Interested parties are asked to send their resume with a cover letter to [email protected].
The 10-member CMAJ Governance Council will also include representatives from the CMA and Joule Boards of Directors, as well as the CMAJ Editorial Advisory Board. CMAJ's Editor-in-Chief, the Publisher, and the Joule CEO will participate as ex officio members. The CMAJ Governance Council reports to the Joule Board. Joule is a CMA company and owner of CMAJ.
Over the last year, the Task Force on CMAJ reviewed all aspects of the journal, with a focus on its governance. During the Task Force's review, CMAJ increased its impact factor to 6.8 and moved to publishing 50 weekly online issues and 12 monthly print issues. Joule's stable of journals was also amalgamated under The CMAJ Group umbrella. The CMAJ Group publishes CMAJ, CMAJ Open, the Canadian Journal of Surgery and the Journal of Psychiatry & Neuroscience.
