NONDA Pilot Plant: 100 Mesh Frac Sand Passes API
TSX-V: SKY
VANCOUVER, Nov. 22 /CNW/ - Stikine Energy Corp. (TSX.V: SKY) ("Stikine" or the "Company") announces that it has now received a complete testing report for 100 Mesh Frac Sand recently processed at its pilot plant operation in Abbotsford, BC. On November 4, 2010 a 'baseline' steady-state 100 mesh product sample was sent to Stim-Lab Inc. (a Core Laboratories Company) facility in Oklahoma. Stim-Lab reported the following positive results;
API RP19C / ISO 13503-2 Parameter | 'Baseline' 100 Mesh Result | Recommended Value |
Section 6, Sieve Analysis | 87% in-size | n/a |
Section 7, Sphericity | 0.7 | 0.6 or greater |
Section 7, Roundness | 0.6 | 0.6 or greater |
Section 7, Clusters | None observed | n/a |
Section 8, Acid Solubility | 1.5% | 3.0% or less |
Section 9, Turbidity Test | 32 FTU | 250 FTU or less |
Section 10, Specific Gravity | 2.62 g/cm3 | n/a |
Section 11, Proppant Crush Test (5,000 psi) | 5.5% | 6% or less |
The operation of the pilot plant remains in the 'optimization phase' with minor refinements having been made to the operating parameters of various components. As a result a number of samples will be submitted for testwork to monitor iterative changes to the products with changes to the plant. Once the pilot plant has been optimized, the operation will move to the 'production phase' and process the balance of the Nonda sample.
The pilot plant will be temporarily shut down during the week of November 22, 2010 due to extreme cold at the site. While the plant can be operated at sub-zero temperatures, the severe arctic outflows and unseasonably cold temperatures limit the efficiency of the equipment. The Company plans to recommence operations on Friday November 26 when temperatures are expected to return to seasonal norms.
Stikine is focused on becoming a dominant frac sand supplier to British Columbia's developing shale gas industry. The Horn River, Liard and Montney Basins are large-scale gas plays led by major producers who currently rely on frac sand transported over great distances. Stikine's Nonda project is located in close proximity to the Horn River and Liard Basins and the Angus project lies in close proximity to the Montney Basin.
