QUÉBEC CITY, Oct. 26, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Norda Stelo's coastal protection project in Cotonou, Benin received the highest mark of recognition in Canada's consulting engineering industry yesterday evening at the 2016 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards ceremony. Norda Stelo's expertise in this over $100 M project put a stop to one of the worst cases of coastal erosion on the African continent.
"Norda Stelo's team is proud to have helped spread word of Canada's engineering expertise with a project that clearly demonstrates the tangible contribution our profession can make to the safety and quality of life of communities. This award of excellence acknowledges the commitment and hard work of all who dedicate themselves day after day," said Alex Brisson, Norda Stelo's President and CEO.
In Cotonou, 13 metres of shoreline were erased each year due to erosion, swallowing up dozens of homes, hotels and other buildings. Thanks to international funding earmarked to fight and adapt to climate change, Norda Stelo and its partners worked for six years to stop the advancing sea and rehabilitate the shoreline.
Norda Stelo's project namely received the Award of Excellence for the team's expertise, transfer of knowledge and contribution to the local community.
