TORONTO, June 20, 2017 /CNW/ - The largest and most successful taxi fleet in North America, Beck, has announced its plans to honour 50 years of dedicated customer service through a series of Toronto-wide celebrations. Running all summer long, interactive street activations and partnerships will say 'thank you' to the communities that have contributed to decades of achievement the company continues to experience. Beck, the female run company inspired by its people and community, is proud to celebrate its success with the drivers, dispatchers and riders that have helped shaped the business into what it is today.
The first initiative, in partnership with Harbourfront Centre and Ryerson University's School of Image Arts, will see 150 Beck drivers be interviewed for an emotionally exhilarating exhibition to coincide with Multicultural Day and the country's larger Canada150 initiatives. In addition, Beck partnered with CP24 Breakfast for Bill About Town, a series of segments that guide Weather Specialist, Bill Coulter, in a Beck to a variety of summer activities around Toronto, displaying Beck's appreciation for the city and commitment to service.
"For the last 50 years, we've been dedicated to the people who drive our city," says Gail Beck-Souter, owner of Beck. "The Torontonians in our back seats or behind the wheel are not only along for the ride, but part of our journey."
Beck is also in partnership with Centennial College to deliver the first ever Taxi Driving Training Program, which includes an in-car defensive driving certification. The program is mandatory for all prospective Beck drivers to complete as part of the company's commitment to providing safe, professional and accessible service. As the only company truly offering on-demand wheelchair accessible service, Beck is proud to provide service for all Torontonians. This principle has been at the core of the business since 1967, when it was initially founded by Jim Beck. Today, the legacy is now driven forward by his daughter and grand-daughter, Gail Beck-Souter and Kristine Hubbard, who are continuously looking for new ways to perfect their service offering. In an industry dominated by men, the success of the powerhouse duo is evident in the 2,000 iconic orange-and-green Beck cars that tirelessly service the city.
Between drivers, dispatchers, call-takers and other staff, over 90 different languages are represented at Beck which sees over 30,000 phone orders per day and 10 million rides a year. This is a significant success factor. The Beck App, which allows customers to order an array of services through their iPhone or Android, such as customized rides, parcel deliveries and future scheduled rides, further displays the company's commitment to both convenience and continuous growth.
"Our drivers, dispatchers and entire team are passionate about Toronto and the people who visit, work and reside here," says Kristine Hubbard, Operations Manager at Beck. "So much of what we do is community focused that we wanted to be able to share our 50th anniversary celebrations in a way that benefitted our customers and the city."
At one time, Beck has been there for every Torontonian. As part of its commitment to give back to the community, Beck is a proud supporter of an array of city focused programs. As of 2017, Beck supports WE Charity, Rethink Breast Cancer, The Lady Ball, Redpath Waterfront Festival, Contact Photography Festival, Ovarian Cancer Research and other community focused initiatives.
