NORTHERN ONTARIO RESIDENT THE FIRST $100,000 POKER LOTTO WINNER
TORONTO, Sept. 17 /CNW/ - It was a lucky first week for Ontario POKER LOTTO players. Elliot Lake resident, Lorretta Bauer is the game's first winner of $100,000 in the nightly draw. She was so excited to find out she had won the September 8 draw, she drove all night to get to the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to claim her prize.
"I bought a ticket on the first day POKER LOTTO came out, because it looked interesting and I thought it would be fun to try. The next day, I bought another ticket and that was the winning hand!" said Bauer. "My husband thought I was joking when I told him I had a match to the cards that were drawn."
Bauer, who has spent most of her life helping others and currently works as a line cook at a senior's rehabilitation home, says that this is her biggest win ever.
"I won a trip to Cuba, many, many years ago, but the largest amount of money I've ever won was $500 on a scratch ticket," she explained.
Smiling from ear-to-ear, the 55 year old explained that she was leaving the OLG Prize Centre and heading to the bank to pay off all of her debts.
"This is going to help me out so much. I can send my son to university now!"
POKER LOTTO is a new lottery game that offers both instant in-store wins - of up to $5,000 - and nightly prize draws of up to $100,000 with each $2 ticket and uses playing card symbols rather than numbers.
The winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart on Ontario Avenue in Elliot Lake.
OLG is a provincial agency responsible for province-wide lottery games and gaming facilities. Since 1975, OLG lotteries, casinos, slots, and resort casinos have generated more than $32 billion for the benefit of the Province of Ontario. Gaming proceeds support Ontario's hospitals, amateur sport, recreational and cultural activities, communities, provincial priority programs such as health care and education, and local and provincial charities and non-profit organizations through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
