MONTREAL, Oct. 1, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - After more than 60 years of mining the lands (Nitassinan) of the Innu of Uashat mak Mani-utenam and Matimekush-Lac John without their consent and without so much as a penny of compensation. After the destruction and the non-reclamation of these lands, after the expulsion of the Innu people and the expropriation of their territory, after the institutional discrimination against Innu workers, after over four years of failed attempts at achieving reconciliation and reparation: IOC/Rio Tinto must pay its rent.
This Wednesday, October 1st, the Chiefs of the Innu of Uashat mak Mani-utenam and of Matimekush-Lac John invite the media to an event taking place in front of IOC/Rio Tinto's head office in Montreal in order to symbolically highlight the steps they are undertaking with respect to the mining of natural resources by IOC/Rio Tinto on their traditional territory.
