NOVA SCOTIA BUSINESS LEADERS SHOW THEIR GRIT WHILE IN EXILE
OVER $440,000 RAISED FOR THE CHILDREN'S WISH FOUNDATION OF CANADA
HALIFAX, Sept. 28 /CNW/ - Business and community leaders from across Nova Scotia rallied together in the spirit of friendly competition in two separate events with a single goal in mind: to help grant the most heartfelt wish of children living with a life threatening illness. Over $440, 000 have been collected to date with more pledges yet to come in.
"Once again, our friends and supporters in the Nova Scotia business community rose to the challenge and made Exile Island and unmitigated success" commented Cheryl Matthews, Chapter Director for The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Chapter.
On September 10, the 2nd Exile Island Cape Breton took place at the Fortress of Louisbourg. Four battalions took to the battlefield for a series of creative, mental and physical challenges, while working their mobile phones to collect pledges on behalf of Children's Wish. In the end, NS Powerful Tribe, lead by Brad George emerged victorious.
Exile Island Halifax took place on September 23rd at the Halifax Citadel Historic Site with 10 tribes competing. The bragging rights went the Palooka Tribe, lead by Exile Island Halifax Chair, Colin MacDonald. "The real winners are the kids who will see their wish granted thanks to all the people who participated and everyone who pledged a donation" remarked Matthews.
Exile Island will return next fall with new challenges, new teams and more children whose wishes will be granted thanks to the fun-filled day of fundraising and good-natured competition.
ABOUT THE CHILDREN'S WISH FOUNDATION OF CANADA
Each year, thousands of Canadian children between the ages of 3 and 17 are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Since 1984, The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada has worked tirelessly to grant exceptional wishes to over 16,000 children and their families.
This year, the Foundation expects to grant 1,000 new wishes. The Foundation has never refused a wish to an eligible child, and with the help of volunteers and generous donors, is able to grant nearly three wishes every day. Each wish is an individual adventure, carefully structured to meet the needs of a particular child and family.
The Foundation is a grassroots charity with chapters in every province and territory. For more information on The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, visit www.childrenswish.ca.
