Nova Scotia Teachers Union - Media Advisory
HALIFAX, May 20 /CNW/ - The 89th Annual Council of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union will convene this coming long weekend, May 21 to 23, at the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel.
Approximately 400 voting delegates, alternate delegates, visitors and guests will attend Council sessions, which start at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Saturday sessions are scheduled from 8:20 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
On Friday evening, The Honourable Marilyn More, Minister of Education will address delegates, and on Saturday, Canadian Teachers' Federation vice-president Brent Shaw will address delegates.
Sunday sessions begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 4:00 p.m.
Note to editors/reporters: -------------------------- a) As is customary, Council sessions will be closed to non-NSTU members on Saturday, May 22 from 8:20 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for the presentation of the NSTU financial package, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday for discussion of costed and economic welfare resolutions and will continue on Sunday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m. The adoption of the budget will take place during a closed session starting on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. b) Media covering Council sessions may pick up a copy of the Annual Council resolutions on Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel, from Angela Murray (902) 497-0194, or request one in advance.
